How it works
When you create an ad, you enter keywords, which allow Google to determine the relevancy of your ad. So if you put the keywords "hotel" and "paris", your ad will be appear when someone searches for paris hotels. Ads appear under 'Sponsored links' in the side column of a search page, but they may sometimes show up on top of free search results as well. This ensures that people who see your ad are interested in what you are selling. Your ad can optionally be run on Display Network sites in the growing Google Network. But it doesn't stop there, you can choose the exact Display Network placements where you'd like your ad to appear, or you can let contextual targeting match your keywords to content.
Adwords also offers different advertisment options. You can create text ads, image ads, or even video ads. All of this is topped off by Google Adword's granular tracking options. You can track the performance of your ad in every way, seeing how many times it showed up and how many times it was clicked.
